How to Support Your Child at Home
At Acre Heads, we reward our pupils for their hard work and dedication beyond the classroom. We want our homework system to be modern, accessible but above all else, purposeful.
We want to ensure that homework is fun, appropriate and linked to the learning taking place in the classroom for every child. Therefore, we have invested in a range of online home learning resources that will adapt automatically to your child’s ability and is monitored by the class teacher. We hope you see the benefits and the changes makes homework a fun experience for all.
Home Reading
Children begin their reading journey with the Read Write Inc. programme in the Foundation Stage. This carefully sequenced programme is supported by using reading books at home that the children are already familiar with in school.
This year, we have also invested in a selection of new home reading books from Collins Big Cat to enhance our school selection of banded reading books the children access once they have completed the Read Write Inc. programme. We have also purchased a larger selection of ‘free reader’ books for those pupils who have progressed through the home reading stages.
In addition to our collection of reading books within school, our children have access to Reading Plus, once they have completed RWI. This gives online access to a a range of exciting reading books and reading games. For further information, please click https://www.readingplus.co.uk/.
Doodlemaths and Doodlespell
We have invested in the award-winning Doodle programme to offer our children the DoodleMaths and DoodleSpell apps. Both apps are perfectly aligned to the National Curriculum and calibrate to allow the pupils a bespoke homework system tailored to their needs.
The Doodle programme also offers a DoodleConnect app for parents which provides information on their child’s progress and analyses any strengths and weaknesses within the curriculum.
Also provided are two additional apps: DoodleTables and DoodleEnglish. We encourage the children to explore these apps too. For more information, please click https://doodlelearning.com/.
TTRockstars
TTRockstars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice. Each week concentrates on a different times table, with regular consolidation weeks for rehearsing times tables that have previously been practised. Incorrect answers are always immediately corrected in front of the pupil so that they start to associate the correct answer to every question. The app works out which times tables facts each pupil is consistently taking longer to answer and then gradually starts to present these facts more frequently until pupils have mastered them. Children can pick their own avatar, play against their friends, if they choose to, and see their score on the leader board. For more information, please click https://ttrockstars.com/.
NumBots
NumBots is a carefully sequenced programme of daily addition and subtraction practice. NumBots is all about every child achieving the “triple win” of understanding, recall and fluency in mental addition and subtraction, so that they move from counting to calculating. So that children can solve more complex problems, NumBots’ intelligent practice methodology focuses on automatic recall of number facts as well as developing conceptual understanding. By carefully layering up comprehension, our learners maintain confidence and are primed to learn the next concept. For further information, please click https://numbots.com/.
School Jam

Your child’s class teacher will send home weekly, fun, easy-to-use maths activities based around the learning taking place within the classroom.
