The children had a fantastic day learning about the engineering behind wind turbines by making their own and competing against each other to see whose could create the largest amount of energy.
Earlier this week Year 2 welcomed visitors from Croda.
The children experimented to find the best way to make foam, they tested 3 different soap solutions to find the one that foamed the best and then made their own slime! 🫧🧪 🤩👏🏻
They looked at how to stay safe at work and tried on some of the safety clothes that we can use to protect us at work. They also looked at grouping different things into mechanical and electrical.
Thank you to Aaliyah and Natalia from @GWPowersafe for joining Year 4 for a workshop today. The children looked at various types of PPE equipment. They looked at what Green energy is and how we get it. The children also looked at various electrical and mechanical items. #ahstemfortnight2026#STEM#acreheads#year4#gwpower#technology#science... The second group designed and launched a water rocket 🚀
Thank you to Anna Harvatt from Reckitts, Anna visited Year 4 this afternoon.
The children loved Anna’s communication based activities, sharing messages about new concepts they created. The children learned that that are so many different job roles within STEM and that even some of the global leaders are right on our doorstep.
We were delighted to welcome Emma Hardy MP to Acre Heads today. She spent time visiting our Reading Retreat and was very impressed by the strong reading culture and the opportunities every child has to develop a love of books.
Emma spoke with our Reading Ambassadors, was interviewed by our Media Club, and enjoyed seeing phonics in Foundation Stage and reading across the school.
She left commenting on how amazing the children were and how much she enjoyed her visit.
