Admissions & placesApplying from Hull or East Riding, deadlines, offers and catchment.10 questions
Can we visit Acre Heads before applying?

Yes. We welcome prospective families who would like to see the school. Our admissions page describes opportunities to visit in October and November, and a new-starters meeting in June. Please contact the Welcome Desk to arrange or confirm a visit. Read about visiting and admissions →

We live in Hull. How do we apply?

Apply through Hull City Council, because applications are made to the local authority where your child lives — even though Acre Heads is an East Riding-maintained school. The published Hull window for September 2027 Reception entry runs from 1 October 2026 to 15 January 2027. Apply and read Hull admissions guidance →

We live in the East Riding. How do we apply?

Apply through East Riding of Yorkshire Council. Its portal opened for September 2027 Reception applications on 1 September 2026, and the deadline is 15 January 2027. East Riding admissions information → or East Riding application portal →

What are the application deadline and offer date?

For September 2027 Reception entry, the application deadline for both Hull and East Riding residents is Friday 15 January 2027. National Primary Offer Day is Friday 16 April 2027. Make your application through the local authority where your child lives. School admissions guidance →

Which children can start Reception in September 2027?

The normal Reception admissions round is for children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023. Families considering deferred or delayed admission, including for summer-born children, should contact their home local authority for individual guidance. Hull guidance →

Can we apply if we live outside the school catchment?

Yes. Families outside the catchment can apply, including those living in Hull. Applying does not guarantee a place: East Riding Council is the admission authority and applies its published admission arrangements if applications exceed the places available. Use the application service for the local authority where you live. How admission decisions are made →

If we put Acre Heads as our first choice, will we get a place?

Not necessarily. Naming Acre Heads as your first preference does not guarantee an offer. The local authority allocates places according to the published admissions arrangements and available places. It is important to list your genuine preferences and submit your application on time. Read our admissions information →

What happens after we receive a school offer?

The local authority sends Reception offers on 16 April 2027. The school will then share further information about transition, meetings, forms and arrangements for starting in September. Exact dates for our 2027 induction activities will be confirmed nearer the time.

What happens if we miss the application deadline?

Contact your home local authority as soon as possible. Late applications may be considered only after on-time applications have been processed, which can reduce the chance of getting your preferred school. Hull guidance → · East Riding guidance →

My child has an EHCP. Is the application process different?

Yes, children with an Education, Health and Care Plan are supported through a separate placement process. Contact your local authority SEND team and discuss your child’s needs with us. Find out about inclusion at Acre Heads →

Our Foundation StageThree teaching groups, shared continuous provision and learning.4 questions
How many Foundation Stage classes are there?

We have 60 Reception places and organise children into three teaching groups of 20 for structured learning times. This combines the familiarity of a smaller teaching group with the excitement and opportunities of the wider Foundation Stage.

Do the three groups stay separate all day?

No. The three groups of 20 come together through our shared continuous provision. Children have opportunities to choose activities, explore, play with friends and follow their interests, alongside planned teaching times.

What will my child learn in Foundation Stage?

Our Foundation Stage combines carefully planned teaching with learning through play, practical experiences and continuous provision. We help children develop communication, early reading and maths, relationships, confidence and independence. Explore our Foundation Stage curriculum →
