Year 5 had a visit from STEM UK.

The children had a fantastic day learning about the engineering behind wind turbines by making their own and competing against each other to see whose could create the largest amount of energy.

Thank you STEM UK for visiting us!

Year 5 have had a great morning at Sirius Academy West

The children split into two groups, one group looked at rules for the science lab, what fireworks are made of, they then carried out some experiments with a bunsen burner.

The second group designed and launched a water rocket 🚀

Thank you for having us, we all had a great time

The team played with tons of effort and resilience.

Losing the first game 1-0 but bouncing back in the second, winning 2-1.

Year 5 have been enjoying STEM Fortnight so far, they have been carrying out a number of experiments....

Paper Plane Launcher - children made various paper planes to launch in the playground. Testing to see how far their plane would travel ✈

Pop Up Coke Can - children had to find a way of getting a coke can out of the mug without touching the mug! ☕

Bubble Snake - children had to blow through a cup and sock filled with liquid to create a snake pattern 🐍

Build a Bridge - children had to find a way of building a strong bridge, using only paper. Tested to see if it was strong enough by placing a toy car on it 🌉🏎
